L’armée loyaliste tente de reprendre le contrôle du nord du Mali

altQuelque 200 soldats se présentant comme membres des forces gouvernementales maliennes progressaient samedi vers le nord du Mali pour tenter de reprendre le contrôle des villes tombées aux mains des rebelles touaregs et des islamistes.

Dans la foulée du coup d’Etat militaire du 22 mars qui a chassé du pouvoir le président Amadou Toumani Touré, les Touaregs du Mouvement national de libération de l’Azawad et des milices islamistes se sont notamment emparés de Tombouctou, de Gao et de Kidal.

Les rebelles touaregs ont proclamé l’indépendance du territoire qu’ils occupent dans la moitié nord du Mali, une sécession immédiatement rejetée par l’Union africaine, l’Algérie voisine, les Etats-Unis et la France.

Selon un correspondant de Reuters, 200 soldats et des dizaines de véhicules placés sous le commandement du colonel El Hadj Gamou sont arrivés dans la ville de Lebezanga, située près de la frontière avec le Niger.

Les forces loyalistes ont progressé de 40km au nord vers la ville de Gao, contrôlée par les rebelles séparatistes et les rebelles islamistes qui souhaitent instaurer la Charia, a-t-on appris auprès de deux officiers de l’armée.

« Nous avons mis en place un poste avancé à Ouatagouna. L’armée malienne reprendre le contrôle de son territoire », a déclaré à Reuters un officier qui s’est présenté comme le capitaine Ag Meylou.

La progression des soldats vers le nord du pays survient alors que des hommes armés ont ouvert le feu à Tombouctou pour disperser des habitants protestant contre l’occupation de leur ville.

Selon plusieurs habitants de Tombouctou, l’une des trois principales villes du nord du pays occupées par les rebelles, des islamistes ont tiré en l’air pour disperser quelque 200 manifestants vendredi après-midi.

« L’Etat ne fait rien donc nous essayons de nous organiser par nous mêmes », a indiqué à Reuters un des manifestants, joint par téléphone.

Les putschistes ont accepté le 7 avril de remettre le pouvoir au président de l’Assemblée nationale, Diouncounda Traoré, aux termes d’un accord négocié sous médiation de la Communauté économique des Etats d’Afrique de l’Ouest (Cédéao).
